We are sharing our first manuscripts here in the Lagoon. Oh boy! My first manuscript was for a YA story that I wrote when I was 12 years old in 7th grade and it harked of The Baby-sitter’s Club and Sweet Valley Twins. And, of course, I still have it, cursive handwriting and all. I’ve made a little video to show you the wonder and talent that was my first attempt at a book.
For fun, leave me a comment and let me know what books you were reading back in seventh grade.
Oh my goodness, I loved this! You should video blog everything. You are so funny, hero. I love how sometimes your first manuscript made you giggle in this little piece. Smile.
Sooooooo, I believe the book I read in 7th grade was “Gone With the Wind”. It had like a million pages so it probably took me the entire 7th grade to read as well. I also remember reading a true crime book called “Who Killed Sal Mineo?” which was the actor who played Plato in “Rebel Without A Cause”. I feel like around that time, I would get these ginormous crushes on celebrities because I would watch re-runs or re-showings of the movies and tv shows, not realizing that they were about 20 to 30 years before my time. So I was totally in love with Sal Mineo, and then I came across that book about how he’d been killed and of course was totally heartbroken that we had no chance to get married and live a fairy tale life. I also remember that happening with Davy Jones from The Monkees. Totally watched every single re-run of that show, only to find out that the current Davy was about 50 years old and I was um, I think 11.
One of these days, I would like to read this first book of yours.
Love you fishy sister!
