Do You Hear What I Hear…

The question in the lagoon this month: What’s the one thing you cannot write without?

Today’s answer comes from the Waterworld Mermaids’ very own Kerri Carpenter.

Visit Kerri at her awesomesauce website here. Follow her on Twitter here.

I have to keep this short and sweet today. Why? Because it’s NaNo month of course.

Wait, you don’t know what NaNo is? Allow me to explain. Writers from all over the galaxy are trying to write at least 50,000 words during the month of November. Intense, right?

Even more crazysauce is that the Waterworld Mermaids are in a tight competition with the writers over at Romance on the Rocks. Who can write the most words? Fingers crossed for the lagoon! Now, back to the question at hand.

The one thing I absolutely, under no circumstances, no way Jose, cannot write without is… Music!

Some writers need absolute quiet. Others love…

This year for NaNoWriMo it’s THE BATTLE OF THE BLOGS!

The Waterworld Mermaids are battling Romance on the Rocks — it’s all about who will write the most words as a team. The winner will receive a pretty badge to post on their website…but mostly, we want bragging rights!

Also this month, the Waterworld Mermaids will be hosting authors from all over the world — they’ll be stopping by the lagoon to tell you all about one thing they cannot write without.

Drop in and see which author has the most in common with you!

So, who out there is doing NaNo this year?

Let’s buddy up and do this thing.   Now GET BACK TO WRITING!

NaNoWriMo 2015: Announcing the Battle of the Blogs!

bf516410b6bf685bce5084182912dfb7_400x400Oh yeah. NaNoWriMo 2015 is going to ROCK! Waterworld Mermaids versus Romance on the Rocks? Oh yeah. We’re doing this! I don’t even need to tell you the rules or answer the question why, right? Let’s dive into the smack talk! The Waterworld Mermaids intend to drown ROR’s blog community in alliteration, great plots, alpha heroes, steamy sex scenes. Okay, the WWM steamy sex scenes would come from Mermaid Kerri and me mostly:), and of course, plain, old-fashioned combat, loosely disguised as fun!

What a way to heap more stress and paranoia onto our writing lives! And again with the right?

And yes, this was a decision mutually agreed upon by all of the Mermaids and Romance on the Rocks. Not just me trying to come up with a blog post for today. So, here’s what’s up, and you’re welcome to join us—if you don’t mind getting wet!

Amazon, Friends, and Family

There’s been a bit of hullabaloo lately in the writing community and–SURPRISE–it’s all about our favorite website, Amazon.

Click here to read a nice, concise summary of the new policy.

Firstly, Amazon decided to ONCE AGAIN change the way books are reviewed. Remember the “Like” buttons? And then the “Author Likes” and then the “Author Page Follows”? Well, now reviews are being weighted based on “helpfulness” (that box you get to check under each review) and “verified purchases” (if you actually bought the book through Amazon, as opposed to another reputable dealer).

I didn’t bat much of an eyelash at this one, since Amazon seems to change this aspect of Likes and Reviews and Follows about once every six months. I don’t even bother asking my fans to “support me” every time this happens, forcing them to ask “How high?” just because Amazon has once again yelled “Jump!”

I’ve learned not to get too attached.

Human Giant Angel Mermaid

Hello fishy friends,

Thank you for always being so kind and allowing me to share with you. I hope you enjoy this short ocean tale penned by a very humbled and grateful mermaid.

“Human Giant Angel Mermaid”

By Carlene Love

There comes a point when I know I’ve been pulled too far away.

It hits me. And the moment it does, I want to cry because I know in that second I am simply not strong enough to stay above the water, although I also know I will live every last drop, trying and fighting.

There are two times when I am thrust above the surface and can see him in the distance. I stop fighting, and try to be still. I want a clear vision of the last person I will ever see on this earth. But when I am still, he is somehow more instinctive…

New Release: Erika Kelly’s “I Want You To Want Me”

Award-winning author Erika Kelly has been spinning romantic tales all her life–she just didn’t know it. Raised on the classics, she didn’t discover romantic fiction until later in life. From that moment on, she’s been devouring the genre and has found her true voice as an author. Over three decades she’s written poems, screenplays, plays, short stories, and all kinds of women’s fiction novels. Married to the love of her life and raising four children, she’s lived in two countries and seven states, but give her pen and paper, a stack of good books, and a steaming mug of vanilla chai latte and she can make her home anywhere.
