Girl on the Verge, Nora Roberts, Carpaccio, Camping & More

The Mermaids are going nuts today. Why? Because it’s one of our most favorite days in the lagoon. One of our fishy sisters has a book release!!! [Insert Glitter Toss]

We are so excited for Mermaid-Pintip and her new book, GIRL ON THE VERGE. All the info is below. But first, allow me to share my favorite Pintip-memory. A couple years ago, we were at the fabulous Turn the Page Bookstore in Boonsboro, MD, home to romance novel queen, Nora Roberts. There’s an entire room devoted to all of Nora’s books and that’s where Pintip and I discovered our shared love of Nora books, specifically the old 1990s and early 2000s collection. We’re talking Calhoun sisters, MacGregors, Stanislovskis, etc. I think we talked about these wonderful books for about an hour.

With that in mind, I decided to ask Pintip 5 random questions. Pay special attention to the last one.

1. Some of my favorite food ever is Thai just like the main character in your new book. But I’m Italian. What is your favorite Italian food?
I looooooove Italian food. Any kind of pasta, really, but if I had to say one thing as my fav it would be carpaccio.

2. What is on your summer reading list?

I’m funny when it comes to reading. I either go on a reading binge where I’ll read 14 books in a week (no joke), or I’ll go many months without reading at all. So I don’t actually have a list. But, I am currently reading Cindy Pon’s WANT and next on my list is an ARC of Jen Malone’s CHANGES IN LATITUDES.

3. What was the last movie you saw in the theater and what did you think?

Oh. *ducks head* This is really embarrassing because I don’t go to the movies very often. I love going to the theater, don’t get me wrong, it’s just difficult for me to go with three kiddos. The last movie I saw was FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. I enjoyed it so much that I saw it TWICE in the theaters. Which, given my statement about, should tell you how much I loved it.

4. Would you rather go to a baseball game, an amusement park, or camping?

Wow. None of those three things are on my list of favs, but seeing that I just went tent-camping for the first time — and pitched the tent MYSELF (yes I’m very proud) — I’d have to say camping.

5. What is your favorite Nora Roberts book?

Love this question, since you and I have bonded over being Nora Roberts fangirls. I’ve read over a hundred of her books (I’m sure you have, too!) I love THE VILLA. And, I love the Gallaghers of Ardmore series (JEWELS OF THE SUN, TEARS OF THE MOON, HEART OF THE SEA.) Okay, that was more than one, but this is Nora Roberts! How can I pick just one??

Pintip is right – I have also read over a hundred of Nora’s books. And I also love the Ardmore series. I remember reading HEART OF THE SEA when I was on spring break in college. But enough about me. Who wants to learn more about Pintip’s new book? Keep reading and congrats to Mermaid-Pintip!!!

Girl on the VergeGIRL ON THE VERGE

From the author of The Darkest Lie comes a compelling, provocative story for fans of I Was Here and Vanishing Girls, about a high school senior straddling two worlds, unsure how she fits in either—and the journey of self-discovery that leads her to surprising truths.

In her small Kansas town, at her predominantly white school, Kanchana doesn’t look like anyone else. But at home, her Thai grandmother chides her for being too westernized. Only through the clothing Kan designs in secret can she find a way to fuse both cultures into something distinctly her own.

When her mother agrees to provide a home for a teenage girl named Shelly, Kan sees a chance to prove herself useful. Making Shelly feel comfortable is easy at first—her new friend is eager to please, embraces the family’s Thai traditions, and clearly looks up to Kan. Perhaps too much. Shelly seems to want everything Kanchana has, even the blond, blue-eyed boy she has a crush on. As Kan’s growing discomfort compels her to investigate Shelly’s past, she’s shocked to find how it much intersects with her own—and just how far Shelly will go to belong…

  1. Thanks so much, Kerri! You’ve just made my day even more special! Nora Roberts fan girls unite!!!!

  2. Yes, I remember your shared love of Nora with Kerri and I remember us all meeting Mrs. Roberts that night at the bookstore. It was so cool seeing you two be fan girls. And then how special was it that Nora actually gave you your RITA last year, right?? I was sitting in my seat, fan girling over you, my dear Pintip. I’m so proud of you!! Congratulations on your writing and pitching that tent. Hahaha!! Love you.

  3. What a fun post! I’m actually quite impressed about Pintip pitching a tent. Wow. I’m so lazy. I would be like: If you can’t pitch it, I’ll sleep in the car. haha.
I can’t believe you didn’t even MENTION eggplant parmesan! lol. As I’ve been a Nora Roberts fan for about thirty-five years, I can completely relate.
Your new book looks and sounds fabulous, Pintip! Congrats!!
