A Time For Thanksgiving…

th-1It’s November… The days are getting colder, it gets darker earlier and Christmas is just around the corner.

What do you think of when you think of November? NaNoWriMo? The time change? Veteran’s Day? Thanksgiving? For me, November is a time for giving thanks. Here are a few of the things I am thankful for in my life:

  1. I am thankful for my family. Without the support I receive from my husband and children it would be impossible for me to work a full time job, take care of the day-to-day stuff and still find time to write.
  2. I’m thankful that my family is healthy and that we have a roof over our heads and food on our table.
  3. And I am thankful for my job and my co-workers. Just like most of the rest of the world, I’d rather win the lottery and spend my days lounging on a sandy beach somewhere. Preferably with a hot cabana boy to bring me fabulous fruity drinks, but since that sadly doesn’t seem to be an option, I am thankful that my job allows me to take care of my family and save for college, and that my coworkers make that cursed day job tolerable most days.
  4. I am thankful for my friends. I feel so fortunate to be blessed with so many wonderful angels in my life, like every single one of the Waterworld Mermaids. These people lift me up when I am down and challenge me to be better person everyday.
  5. And finally, I am thankful that I live in a time and place where my accomplishments are directly related to how hard I’m willing to work. I have found that the things that are the most valuable in life are those things you have to strive for. I’m glad I get the opportunity to follow my dreams.

So, now that I’ve shared my top five, it’s your turn. Please take a moment to share some of the things that you’re thankful for.

  1. Love this post, Dana. For over a month now, I’ve been doing this everyday — writing down five things for which I am grateful. They typically revolve around my family, my writing, my friends, and my health. It looks a lot like a specific version of your list, actually! I’m really happy to hear that your job is going well. And I am very thankful for your friendship!

  2. Hooray!
Historically, my family celebrated Christmas with family and Thanksgiving with friends…or, rather, “the family we make ourselves.” I always felt this was the best way to celebrate the people in your life that you love…and not just because they’re blood kin.
I am thankful for so many things…especially the Waterworld Mermaids and you, Dana! (And also your family, because they ROCK.) xox

  3. Hi Dana 🙂 I love your number five. I’m thankful to have you as a friend and to get to indulge in your wonderful, warm hugs every now and then.

  4. Ditto about everything you said Dana. And a few more:

    1. I’m thankful for Haagen Dasz chocolate fudge ice cream.
    2. I’m thankful for stretchy pantyhose after ingesting copious amounts of said ice cream.
    3. I’m thankful Thing 2 (second kid) has decided to stop bitting his sister indiscriminately. He now only does it on special occassions.

    And..

I’m utterly thankful that my parents had enough courage, wisdom and strength to spirit me away from behind the Iron Curtain so my children never have to know the trial and sorrows we suffered. And that I am free to write whatever words I want.

  5. Aww… That you all for stopping by today! And who isn’t thankful for Haagen Dasz???

  6. Great post, Dana-Mermaid! Just seeing this today since I was traveling yesterday. And on that note, I am very grateful I made it in one piece considering my tire pressure light was on the entire time I drove to PA (and okay, for the last three weeks too). I’m also grateful for the words I’ve written so far for NaNo and my biggest thank you is for my Harry!!! My little ball of fur is cuddled up near me as I type this. 😉

And I’m always thankful for my Mermaid lovelies. Big smoochies!!!

  7. Dana,
Your list made me smile. I think we all need to remember to be thankful for more than one day out of the year. I loved your list. You pretty much covered all the bases for me as well. 🙂
Happy Month of Thanksgiving. May it last throughout the whole year. 🙂
