  1. Rio Grande is a romantic western starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara set in the years after the Civil War. She visits him on the frontier, looking for their son. They are a battling married couple. He invites her to dinner. She sets the table and finds a music box tucked in with his things. After dinner, soldiers walk to the tent and serenade her. It’s the beginning of their reconciliation.

  2. Love this Denny Mermaid! I know I’m not eligible for the giveaway as a mermaid, but I want to share anyway! Favorite foodie romance moment is from Melissa Cutler’s The Trouble with Cowboys and the hero is really into meat. There’s a scene where he’s seasoning and tasting the heroine with all these exotic salts for steak. Loved it! And one of my favorite soldier heroes is J.D. Steele from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Bad Attitude. Unfortunately I’m not a great cook which is why I keep cans of beanies and weenies handy for holidays. Happy Memorial Day by the way!

  3. Hi Denny-Mermaid! For bbqs and cookouts, I like to bring side dishes. One of my favorite things to do is with skewers. Make fruit skewers – so add a piece of cantaloupe, honeydew and then a strawberry on top. Or, a skewer with a piece of fresh mozz, a cherry tomato and a basil leaf. People like to eat things on sticks. Also, this is a really good dish – can either be a side dish or main – from Bobby Flay. It’s a Greek orzo salad that’s easy to make and feeds a lot of people. You can put shrimp in it or not. Either way is yummy! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/greek-orzo-and-grilled-shrimp-salad-with-mustard-dill-vinaigrette-recipe/index.html

My favorite foodie romance is Kimberly Kincaid’s novella, Love on the Line. Can’t wait to read her second one too.

Happy long weekend and have an awesome cookout!

  4. We’re doing basics this weekend for our Memorial Day BBQ. But, I also just bought a pizza stone to put on the BBQ for Father’s Day. Since my hubby does do any cooking, which includes the BBQ, I’m excited about using it. He’ll be excited about eating it!

  5. Denny,
Sexy food scenes? Hmmmm. Flashdance? The wandering foot while they’re eating crab at the nice restaurant. I always think of that one. Or the food scenes in 9 1/2 Weeks. I don’t remember much about that movie because I saw it on the sly in high school when my mom said I couldn’t, but I remember those food scenes. LOL.
My favorite thing to make is a basic bean salad, (but it will be messy eaten off someone’s stomach, so don’t try that). haha. Toss in black beans, grilled corn on the cob (shaved off the cob), diced red peppers, chopped fresh cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper, jalapeno pepper (I don’t use because my kids don’t like it) and then a shot of tequila. The hell with the kids on that one. It’s a super easy recipe and always tastes great. You can throw in other stuff or take out what you don’t like. I usually throw quinoa in it, but that wasn’t in the original recipe when I started making this ten years ago.
Hope that helps, Denny! It’s been a crazy week, so I’m sorry I’m just now getting around to this. Maybe you can just use the recipe for a summer barbeque. Or for Fourth of July? 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend!

  6. My favorite movie food scene would be from When Harry Met Sally when she fakes an orgasim and the other diner classically says to the waitress “I’ll have what she’s having”
